Geoff Barton CBE on Education Policy
Shilling Building Lecture Theatre
Geoff Barton CBE will discuss current education policy and its context. Barton is an extremely significant figure in national education policy. Originally a teacher, then Headteacher, he was General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL, the ‘Headteacher’s Union’) between 2017 and 2024. Highly influential ‘behind the scenes’, he is a powerful defender of education in general, and the humanities in particular, as well as an inspiring teacher of leaders and leader of teachers. He most recently chaired the chaired the Oracy Education Commission.
The lecture will be followed at 6pm by the Festival of Research Awards Ceremony and then a drinks reception.
