Professor Narender Ramnani has officially begun his term as President at the British Neuroscience Association (BNA) during the BNA2025 International Festival of Neuroscience in Liverpool.

Professor Ramnani is a distinguished Professor of Neuroscience from the Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London. His research uses functional neuroimaging to understand brain organisation, and brain mechanisms that govern higher cognitive function, learning processes, and the control of action.

Beyond his roles in teaching and research, Professor Ramnani is also Vice Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at Royal Holloway’s School of Life Sciences and the Environment, contributing to the University’s EDI strategy and coordinate EDI across multiple departments.

Outside of his university commitments, Professor Ramnani has been a dedicated member of the BNA. He brings a long history of service to the association that spans over twenty years, earning him a lifetime Honorary Membership of the association – an honour of highest distinction bestowed upon only a small number of individuals.

At the commencement of his presidency, Professor Ramnani expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunities that lay ahead, “I am thrilled and honoured to step into the role of BNA President. I’ll focus on doing the work needed to promote members’ interests, move the needle on improving the culture of research, find ways to strengthen core scientific values, and help to make UK neuroscience ever more inclusive.”

The BNA is the largest UK organisation connecting, representing and promoting neuroscience and neuroscientists across the UK and engaged in forging links internationally. The association is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive cross-sector neuroscience community – bringing together academia, industry, clinicians and wider society – and moving world-class neuroscience research up the agenda.

Nominated by members of the BNA, the role of President has been previously held by leading UK neuroscientists across the country. Together with the wider leadership team, the President acts as a figurehead for the BNA and shapes the association’s overarching strategic direction, aims and activities.
