Meet Royal Holloway alum Umang, an international student from India who studied MSc International Business Management at Royal Holloway Business School. After gaining experience in the banking industry in London, he’s returned to India to develop his international banking career further as he explores future opportunities.

Tell us about your career path since graduation. How did you end up where you are?

 After completing my studies at Royal Holloway as an international student, I transitioned onto a Graduate visa and began working as a Credit Analyst at Punjab National Bank (International) Ltd in London. As my visa approached expiry I returned to India, securing a role at DBS Mumbai as a Credit Associate (Relationship Manager). Leaving London after three years was emotionally challenging, but my new role is giving me exposure to new markets and building on my banking experience, which may help me return to the UK for work in the future. 

What was it about your time at Royal Holloway that has most benefitted your career or influenced your path since graduation?

Studying at Royal Holloway gave me a strong academic foundation and practical, industry-relevant learning. Group projects and case-based learning helped me develop analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, which directly supported my transition into credit analysis and banking roles after graduation. Overall, it built my confidence and gave me international exposure that shaped my career direction.

What would you say to potential students considering studying at Royal Holloway?

Royal Holloway Business School gives you great exposure to real-world learning alongside strong academic knowledge. While at university, make use of the many internships, societies, and networking opportunities available. 

What advice would you give to students thinking about a career in your sector?

If you’re interested in a career in banking, focus on analytical skills, communication, and gaining early industry experience. Stay consistent and adaptable, as the field is competitive and fast-changing.

What did you love most about your time at Royal Holloway? 

My favourite memories of Royal Holloway are the everyday moments — staying in George Eliot halls, studying in the Founders Building library, and spending time on the grounds down the hill.

That one year there was truly one of the best times of my life, and I still miss those days.
