In EEB we utilise the power of ecology and evolution to develop solutions to global challenges.

The Centre for Ecology, Evolution & Behaviour (EEB) has a long history in our Department and is currently interlinked with the Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Research Theme (BES). We are a friendly, collaborative and social community of scientists, with a culture of intellectual curiosity, who share our successes and achievements regularly via our bi-annual EEB Newsletter and have a weekly discussion group (jointly with BES), which is run by our PhD students. Within this highly stimulating setting, we are educating the next generation of scholars and professionals for whatever challenges the future may hold.
We take a multi-dimensional and integrative approach to the study of ecology, evolution, behaviour, and conservation by studying the way organisms function and how they interact with the abiotic and biotic factors in their environment in a changing world. We study both the processes that generate new biodiversity (i.e., speciation) and those resulting in biodiversity loss (e.g., habitat loss and fragmentation, pollution, climate change, or invasive species).
Our research spans across all levels of biodiversity (i.e., from microbes to fungi to plants to animals) and addresses a range of fundamental and applied problems. Our world-leading and internationally-excellent academics study a wide spectrum of research areas, including animal behaviour, conservation biology, pollinator biology, invasive species, plant-herbivore interactions, ecology, evolutionary biology and marine biology. Our flexibility affords the opportunity to explore novel questions that exceed traditional disciplinary boundaries.
