A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Royal Holloway and Crossrail International on 17 February, signalling an innovative partnership which aims to enhance research and technological innovation in transport infrastructure and digital transformation.

The memorandum of understanding presents an opportunity to develop collaborative work between Crossrail International and Royal Holloway colleagues across our departments and Schools. It outlines the framework for cooperation and collaboration with Crossrail International in support of the government’s international objectives on climate change, diplomacy, development, and trade through the international development of rail and other transport infrastructure.
Discussing the memorandum, Professor Chris Frost commented, "We are excited to collaborate with Crossrail International and bring Royal Holloway’s interdisciplinary researchers with problem-solving knowledge and expertise together with Crossrail International’s transformational enterprises. There are genuine opportunities in this partnership to deliver key technological innovation from all areas of the University to support society and the economy."
Dr Khuong An Nguyen, lead contact said: "We have all experienced an overcrowded, delayed or cancelled train. That's why I have been doing transport research for the past 15 years to address these challenges. The collaboration with Crossrail International will enable us to bring our theoretical research into real-world solutions, support impactful rail projects, and ultimately, make daily travel a little less stressful for everyone."
Crossrail International is wholly owned by the Department for Transport (DfT) and sponsored by Secretary of State for Transport. It provides strategic advice to international organisations to develop and deliver complex transport infrastructure schemes, including government agencies, and public transport authorities. Currently, it is delivering various government rail initiatives worldwide, including the award-winning UK Elizabeth Line.
