Dr Fauzia Idrees appointed Global Ambassador for Responsible AI for the UK

Dr Fauzia Idrees, Senior Lecturer in Information Security at Royal Holloway and Director of the Cyber Security Distance Learning programme has been appointed as a Global Ambassador for Responsible AI for the UK.

The appointment by The Global Council for Responsible AI (GCRAI) was made at a gathering in the House of Lords on 20 February. The event brought together leaders from 60+ nations, uniting policymakers, academics, and industry experts in a shared mission to shape the future of AI with ethics, fairness, and accountability, with GCRAI as an international governing body committed to fostering the development of AI technologies that are ethical, secure, and beneficial for humanity. 

Dr Fauzia Idrees commented,

“Being sworn in at the House of Lords as the Global Ambassador for Responsible AI for the UK was such a privilege and honour. One of the most exciting parts of this event was meeting so many incredible global leaders in person, many of whom I’ve been connected with online for years. I’m so happy to have made lifelong connections and truly look forward to collaborating with many of them on this journey toward responsible AI.”

The Council’s mission is to lead and support worldwide efforts in ethical, secure AI development, enhancing societal well-being through inclusive dialogues, comprehensive standards, and international cooperation. Their vision is to become the global authority on ethical AI, setting standards to ensure that AI technologies are designed with security, ethics, and societal benefit in mind. 

In her role as an ambassador, Dr Idrees will support the goals and initiatives which include:

  • Establishing a Responsible AI Certification Institution to ensure compliance with ethical standards.
  • Expanding Global Council Chapters to promote the mission and vision globally.
  • Developing International Partnerships with corporations, governments, and academia.
  • Promoting Awareness and Leadership Development through educational materials and training programs.
  • Creating a Responsible AI Testing Lab for evaluating AI products against established ethical and security standards.

GCRAI is equally dedicated to responsible, inclusive innovation, aiming to set a global standard that respects human values and enhances capabilities. These initiatives position the Council at the forefront of ethical AI, influencing practices today and paving the way for future secure, ethical, and beneficial innovations.
