In his latest article in the academic journal, The Conversation, Professor Keith Martin from the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway debates whether quantum computers could crack cryptographic codes and cause a global security disaster. Professor Martin gives his expert insight in response to some reported improvements in algorithms threatening modern cryptography.

Cryptography underpins the security of almost everything in cyberspace, from wifi to banking to digital currencies such as bitcoin. By weakening cryptography, quantum computing has the potential to present a serious threat to our everyday cybersecurity.  So is a quantum-cryptography apocalypse imminent and should we panic?
