Applicants to Royal Holloway come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we accept a broad range of qualifications to our courses. Each applicant is considered carefully on their individual merits, but please see below for the standard minimum entry requirements for students from Germany.
Undergraduate
Abitur
Most of our courses consider an average grade of 1.5 - 1.7 and some courses will have subject requirements. Specific grade requirements can be found in the course finder entry for your chosen course.
A Levels & International Baccalaureate (IB)

Undergraduate students applications are made online via UCAS.
Postgraduate
Master's Degree (Magister)
If you have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate subject with good grades/GPA and at a reputable university, then you will be considered for entry to a Royal Holloway Master's degree programme. Exact requirements will depend upon the programme, but most departments will ask for a Bachelor, Fachhochschuldiplom or Magister Atrium of Grade 3.
Research Degree (MPhil/PhD)
If you have successfully completed a Masters degree in an appropriate subject with good grades/GPA and at a reputable university will be considered for entry to a Royal Holloway MPhil/PhD programme. Exact requirements will depend upon the programme, but most departments will ask for a Bachelor, Fachhochschuldiplom or Magister Atrium of minimum Grade 3.

English language requirements
To apply to any of our courses, you need to prove a minimum level of English language proficiency.
Students with a 10-11 in the English components of the Abitur will be considered for exemption from IELTS / TOEFL requirements.
Students who do not quite make the English language requirements may be able to take a pre-sessional English language programme.
Fees and scholarships
Royal Holloway EU Undergraduate Scholarship 2025
Tuition fee reduction of £1,000 for EU national undergraduate students who are currently living in the EU. The scholarship is applied automatically to eligible students. Please read further details here
