Food Made Good is the most globally recognised industry standard for measuring sustainability across the hospitality sector. Retaining the standard with the highest possible rating of 3* and an overall increased score of 75%, demonstrates a credible assessment of Royal Holloway’s commitment to sustainability and underpins one of the University’s values: “Daring” – challenging itself and others to make a positive difference in the world.
Areas that were assessed included:
Ethically sourcing meat and fish
Recycling and food waste
Feeding people well
Staff welfare
Reducing carbon footprint
The University is committed to providing its students, staff and visitors with delicious and nutritious food that is produced with the environment and social responsibility in mind. This means customers can eat at the University knowing that the produce is sourced ethically and that any waste is either recycled or disposed of sustainably.
Commenting on the award, Royal Holloway’s Director of Commercial Services, Gillian Almond said, “At Royal Holloway, the way we source, prepare and serve food has a big impact on the environment. We know that sustainability is of increasing concern to our customers, especially when it comes to food which is why our three-star status is a great way to show our commitment to the cause”.
