Royal Holloway has achieved a Green Meetings Silver Award in acknowledgement of its environmentally-friendly good practice and commitment to becoming more sustainable.
Developed by Green Tourism, which has assessed and accredited the sustainable practices of businesses for over 25 years, the meetings specific standard helps corporate buyers to identify venues that proved they are taking their environmental responsibilities seriously.
To achieve the award, the University’s performance was measured against three pillars of caring for people, places, and the planet. Independent assessors examined the responses to the criteria, which ranged from energy, water, and waste through to catering, procurement, and travel, as well as awareness, communication, and community involvement.
Royal Holloway’s Commercial Services Director, Gillian Almond commented, “Our prospective clients are asking more and more questions about the environmental credentials of our facilities and services. It’s essential that we can demonstrate that we take sustainability very seriously and can support them in their ambitions to host more sustainable meetings. Achieving the award will also allow us to set targets towards continuous improvement on our green journey”.
